Hemp Shopper Hand-Dyed Skylark

Hand-dyed in our atelier, the Hemp Shopper is made of vintage Italian hemp fabric and vegetable-tanned leather — both coloured by hand in the same Skylark, the warm beige of the bird’s wing, soft against pale sand.
The dye falls freely on the cloth, settles where it wants. No two bags come out the same.
A generous front leather pocket, doubled leather handles, and a raw iron ring complete a piece that is built to be used — at the market, at the beach, anywhere the day takes you.
Part of the Macchia Mediterranea SS26 collection, inspired by the colours and textures of the Mediterranean scrubland.

natural characteristics

Variations in tone, texture and shading are not flaws: they are the fingerprint of the hide. Over time, scratches will soften, colours will deepen and the leather will settle into something unmistakably yours. These are not signs of wear. They are signs of life.

details

Leather

We start with vegetable-tanned leather in its natural colour, then build the shade by hand — coat after coat of pure aniline dye, applied in our atelier until the depth is exactly right. The result is a surface that is alive: warm, uneven in the most honest way, and unique to each piece.

Hemp Fabric

Italy was once the world’s leading hemp producer — over 100,000 hectares of cultivation, a fibre trusted for centuries in textiles, shipbuilding, and craftsmanship. That tradition faded in the mid-twentieth century, but the material never lost its character. Coarse, durable, and deeply rooted in the land, Italian vintage hemp carries that history in every thread.

Iron Ring

Wrought iron is not a detail at Tagliovivo — it is a position. Every ring, hook, and fitting is hand-forged individually: shaped by hammer and heat, never by mould or machine. Each one comes out slightly different from the last. In a world built on perfect replication, that difference is not a flaw. It is the whole point.

leather & hardware care

Water Exposure

Vegetable-tanned leather is not water-resistant. If the bag gets wet, gently blot the surface with a soft, dry cloth, absorbing as much moisture as possible without rubbing. Let it dry naturally at room temperature, away from radiators, direct heat and sunlight.

Cleaning & Stains

Full-grain, full culatta and raw culatta leathers can be nourished with a soft cotton cloth and a small amount of moisturizing cream, applied evenly across the entire surface; note that it may slightly darken the leather. Hand-dyed leathers are best cleaned with a small amount of glycerin soap, applied in the same way. On polished leathers, avoid creams and use only a soft, dry cloth. On reverse culatta, use only a soft suede brush, following the direction of the nap. In all cases, do not treat isolated stains directly, as this may fix or darken the mark rather than remove it.

Conditioning

Use only products suited to the specific leather, apply them sparingly and always test them on a hidden area first. Avoid oils and waxes, which may darken the surface or alter its colour and finish.

Hardware Care

Our hooks, rings, and buckles are hand-forged in wrought iron or brass. Keep them dry, wiping them with a soft cloth after damp days. Over time, the iron may darken naturally, in harmony with the leather.

Storage

When not in use, store the bag in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, ideally in a breathable cotton bag. Fill it lightly with paper to help it keep its shape, and avoid hanging it by the strap for long periods.
